Baron’s Cove Resort – The Best Sag Harbor NY Hotels (2024)

Have you ever stayed at a hotel that made such an impression, your family still talks about it regularly months after your stay? This year, Baron’s Cove Resort is that place for our family. In fact, the hotel has a coveted spot on our Christmas Tree this year!

We spent 3 nights at Baron’s Cove in Sag Harbor, New York this summer and it was one of the highest highlights of the year.

Researching for a trip can be overwhelming.  How do you know which places are really worth it? I’ve visited over 25 cities in the past two years and my blog is all about the best of places we’ve stayed, what we ate, and what we did that is worth your time and money.

In today’s post, I’ll be showcasing Baron’s Cove, a harbor-side resort in the heart of the Hamptons and why it is the perfect place to stay in Sag Harbor. Let’s dive right in!

The Town

Baron's Cove Front Entry.

First of all, one of the best things about the Sag Harbor area is that it’s very centrally located to all of the popular towns in the Hamptons.

We rented a car, and from there, we were able to drive conveniently to Southampton and even Montauk, which is at the very eastern tip of the Hamptons. Bus and train are also popular ways to get there, especially since traffic getting out of the city can be pretty jammed up, but having a car definitely made it convenient to get everywhere we wanted to go.

The Historic village of Sag Harbor is also especially charming and has a myriad of restaurants and shops on its main street. It has everything that makes a vacation fun, including a coffee and donut shop, a fun dockside seafood shack, an ice cream shop, and a lot more. You can find an entire post of all the things we did during our 3 days in the Hamptons here.

The Property

Baron's Cove Hotel.

Baron’s Cove is described on their website as:

“The Hamptons’ preeminent All-American resort destination. With sixty-seven charming village and harbor-facing guestrooms, gorgeous lofted suites boasting sweeping harbor views, village rooms featuring intimate private gardens, and cozy dog-friendly accommodations, Baron’s Cove caters to every discerning traveler seeking a relaxing getaway on the East End.”

Driving up is where BC starts to live up to that description. The cedar shake exterior, porch, and rocking chairs do their website photos overwhelming justice with it’s charm and welcoming feel. In those first moments, I could feel my idealistic Coastal Grandmother. Dreams come true.

Walking through the doors to the front desk feels like you’re stepping into a Hallmark movie of some kind. It definitely looks historic but with a modern feel as well.

Dark, rich woods throughout the lobby extends into the small but very inviting bar and seating area. Several tables welcome guests to happy hour. Walking out from the bar area leads directly to the side porch which is decked out with more chairs with the fireplace as the focal point.

The decor is so quintessential coastal, and I want it all for my house. Every space flows so well into the next with the side porch then becoming the outside dining area for The Restaurant at Baron’s Cove, a fine dining experience featuring locally sourced vegetables, fish, and meats as well as an award-winning wine list.

Adjacent to the porch and outdoor dining area is the saltwater pool which is enclosed by a beautifully manicured hedge. The iconic striped awning above the porch brings the entire area together.

The pool is a nice size where there is enough space for kids to play and for adults to find a space to sit without getting too splashed. Sunscreen and water are provided, and there is a pool attendant as well.

On the grassy area adjacent to the pool, they have cornhole set up and right next to that is a small fitness center where you can grab a workout or take a yoga class.  There is also a tennis court available and included in your stay plus complimentary bicycles!  The Sag Harbor City Center is just a short drive, walk, or bike ride to the resort.

The Rooms

Baron’s Cove offers both rooms and suites (some with private balconies and a harbor view), options include 1 King, 2 queens, or 2 double beds. We had a 2 double bed harbor-facing room located on the first floor. There is plenty of free parking onsite and we were able to park right outside our guest room, so convenient!

Walking in, directly to the left is the bathroom which looked recently renovated. The tub and shower are decorated with subway tile and the sink is a beautiful marble with charming fixtures.

The focal point of the room is the adorable bedding with the vintage nautical BC logo embroidered on the shams.  They looked straight out of a Pottery Barn catalog. The sliding glass door opens up to a small sitting patio and the pool from the other side, super easy access!

The overall space is big enough to have a large dresser and big screen TV as well as a wet bar – plenty of space to move around. Overall, I would say the rooms are on the simpler side, but very charming and comfortable.

The Service and Overall Experience

Saltwater pool at Baron's Cove.

This is always where a resort can set itself apart. Aside from the look and amenities, how does being there make me feel?

One thing we noticed is all the folks we encountered working at Baron’s Cove seemed so genuinely happy to be there. The folks at the front desk were so helpful and made us feel so welcome. They took time to help us get oriented to the area as well as making us aware of and setting us up for our complimentary kayak excursion in the morning.

Once, we spontaneously ran into the chef while we were leaving our room and we started chatting. He enthusiastically showed us some of the vegetables and herbs growing on the property for the kitchen. The housekeeping crew was as cheerful as could be and our bartender just went above and beyond to make our time there so special and personalized. We were made to feel at home and cared for, and that makes all the difference.

Conclusion about Baron’s Cove Resort

Cindy and Matthew selfie at Baron's Cove Resort.

Baron’s Cove is absolutely one of the best resorts we’ve ever stayed at. It is truly a perfect hotel all around that the whole family can enjoy and not feel too spread out. The resort is rated as a 3.5 star hotel on Expedia but I am here to adamantly say that the overall experience absolutely feels more like a boutique 4-star luxury hotel.

So, have you stayed at Baron’s Cove?  I’d love to hear your thoughts or any questions I can answer. Thanks for reading and definitely let me know if you end up booking a stay!

For our 23rd Anniversary, we took some credit card For our 23rd Anniversary, we took some credit card benefits and treated ourselves to a night at the Ritz Carlton Rancho Mirage. Stunning property and the service is so genuine. We were upgraded to a 1 bedroom suite and can you even deal with the size of that shower?! Oh, and I realized later we actually had TWO bathrooms!! Unbelievable. We had a great time with the staff at the Club Lounge and the food, so good. Not a bad value for breakfast, lunch, dinner, and dessert if you don’t want to go anywhere. The staff even sent us off with an anniversary gift and handmade card❤️. Forever memories made.
Are you cold? Warm up with a summer throwback to Are you cold? Warm up with a summer throwback to Pt.2 in NYC! Plus, there is never a bad time for coffee and gelato😍.

LOVED Leonessa Rooftop Bar - If you’re itching for some Italian Coastal Vibes head over to Leonessa for an Aperol Spritz and fantastic views of lower Manhattan! The yellow cabana striped awnings add the perfect touch to a delightful spot for aperitifs.

Ariston Flowers and Coffee - it just so happens a dear friend from college was also in the city at the same time and we discovered this gorgeous flower and coffee shop near Union Square. Not only was the coffee delicious, the ambiance was perfect for catching up, with tons of beautiful blooms in view. Cute place for a little break!

Madison Square Park - wasn’t a scheduled stop but we walked through on the way to our favorite gelato shop and it turned into such a highlight.
Park goers chatted around cafe tables and the meandering path took us past the prettiest flowers to where we saw an open field of FIREFLIES😍😍. Something I had not seen since I was a little kid. It definitely cued up some nostalgic vibes.

Gelateria Gentile has a few locations in Manhattan. We’ve been to 3 of them and they’re all charming and amazingly delicious. They do gelato the artisan way - served from covered metal containers using spatulas, not scoops. No neon colors , just pure flavorful goodness. We will be in NYC again this Christmas and yes, we will be stopping there!

The Oculus - a transportation hub and shopping mall like no other located at the World Trade Center. We caught our train to JFK from there and it’s just a visual marvel to walk through every time.

I hope you enjoyed this reel and capsule of some fun things to check out next time you’re in NYC!

Cannot recommend this 4 day royal Caribbean cruise Cannot recommend this 4 day royal Caribbean cruise from LA to Catalina Island and Ensenada, Mexico more highly!! It was the perfect length and perfect for the entire family, including multiple generations. In this series I’ll be talking about the entertainment, the food, the activities, the port of call and my personal tips if I were to do it again! What questions do you have about this four-day cruise?
Happy Father’s Day to all you who dad out there an Happy Father’s Day to all you who dad out there and to this dad. You lead by example in love and wisdom, and we are so grateful for you. Love you so much, Matthew Richey 💙💙!
I had no idea this awesome Alpine Coaster even exi I had no idea this awesome Alpine Coaster even existed in Leavenworth until this visit. It’s super close to town, and in addition to the coaster they have a climbing wall (which we didn’t do). It’s a fun addition to whatever else you’re doing. Not super long and the views from the top are awesome! I love coasters and this one was definitely a thrill. Things to know, any hat other than a backwards baseball cap WILL fly off and if you want to bring your phone, make sure you have a secure pocket to store it once you get going. Everything else I would leave in the car or they do provide you with handbag storage that they keep behind the counter.
Would definitely do again and reasonably priced at $20 for one ride and $36 for two rides!
